Riders claim Singapore's first jumping team gold
Singapore's riders put in a flawless performance on Monday morning to earn the Republic's first-ever SEA Games equestrian jumping team gold.
Riders Catherine Chew, Cheong Su Yen and Predrag Marjanovic finished the first qualifying round without picking up any penalty points. This gave Singapore an early lead at the Turf Club Riding Centre.
They went on to repeat that feat in the final qualifying round.
Their teammate, equestrian golden girl Janine Khoo also had a commendable showing with just four penalty points.
As the best three results go into the final score, Singapore and Malaysia had the advantage of four riders to pick from.
Malaysia grabbed the silver medal with 18 penalty points while Thailand took bronze with 20 penalty points.
Myanmar (84 penalty points) and Indonesia (91 penalty points), who won silver and gold in the 2013 SEA Games respectively, placed fourth and fifth.
Both teams had shock eliminations during the second qualifying round because of double refusals -- when a horse fails to jump a fence.
Philippines took last place with 104 penalty points.
