Eric Khoo's new project celebrates the female orgasm
Local director Eric Khoo is no stranger to exploring sexual themes in his work.
One scene in his 2011 animated feature Tatsumi dealt with incest.
Now, he has pushed his boundaries further by taking up the challenge of showcasing, tastefully, a woman's pleasure in bed in just 30 seconds.
Khoo, 50, was hired by Japanese condom brand Okamoto to direct the video for its latest campaign.
The video was released online on Aug 12.
In it, there are close-ups of the facial expressions of a few women in bed.
On YouTube, the video has been viewed around 67,000 times.
PHOTO: SPH FILE PICKhoo (above) told The New Paper: "The concept of the video was sweet, focusing on sexual pleasure and the female orgasm.
"I wanted to take on the challenge of capturing the audience’s attention and at the same time deliver the message in a tasteful, artistic manner.
"It was imperative to get the right talents who could deliver the facial expressions I was after."
He said that the casting process took a few rounds.
"We went through several rounds of casting, some were apprehensive initially due to the nature of the video but once properly briefed about what they had to do during shoot, they agreed to come on board."
He then selected the best ones after watching the audition tapes.
And no, he doesn't think the finished product will be too scandalous to Singaporeans.
Said Khoo: "I believe that with increased exposure to western culture, television shows and movies from all over the world, Singaporeans have definitely seen ads that have pushed boundaries further than what we have done with this short.
Okamoto’s Singapore managing director, Mr Andy Ong, said: “Over the years, sex has evolved from being a taboo topic – an obligation for women to reproduce – to something beyond that.
"The idea behind (our campaign) is to celebrate strong, confident women of the 21st Century who are unafraid to enjoy sex."
