Edgy shoot for New Face finalists
Decked out in Levi’s clothes, the finalists of The New Paper New Face 2015 get ready to pose in front of gleaming Subaru cars.
“I think this shoot was much more challenging than the previous one,” Vanessa Ho, 16, said.
The Ngee Ann Secondary School student added: “In the first one, I was given more instructions on what to do. This time around, now that we’re in the top 20, I think they expect better performances and there was more pressure to do well.”
Vanessa also thought the theme of the shoot was harder to pull off.
All the finalists had heavy make-up with dark lips and eyebrows and had to give fierce and edgy looks.
Fellow finalist Angie Watkins, 19, agreed that the first shoot was easier as it was more natural.
“For this shoot, you need to give that ‘oomph‘ which was tougher, because you have to work with all this make-up and hair,” she said.

Another finalist Samradha Sanjeev, 18, found it difficult to be relaxed at the photo shoot, due to her pose.
“I was too tall, so they had to have me pose on the car. I was comfortable sitting on it, but since I wanted to show my legs, I tried locking my heel on the car, and it was tough to hold,” she said.
She added that she needed to stay relaxed despite the difficulty of holding the pose as the strain would start to show on her arms and on her face.
However despite the shoot’s challenges, all three of them enjoyed doing something different.
“I really enjoyed trying a new look such as this really messy hair, and really strong make up. And just getting a different studio to work with,” Vanessa said.
Angie, who is currently taking a gap year to pursue modelling, added: “I loved this shoot. I feel fierce, and I liked getting to see myself differently. It was really fun.”
Samradha, who will be attending University of Groningen, agreed and said: “I like more colour and having darker lips. I actually feel more comfortable in stuff like this, and I like doing more serious kinds of shoots.”
