SingFirst introduces final five candidates
Singaporeans First party introduced the final five of the 10 candidates who will be taking part in the Sept 11 polls. The announcement was made yesterday at its headquarters in Tras Street.
The candidates are party chairman Ang Yong Guan, 60, vice-chairman Tan Peng Ann, 67, sales director Wong Soon Hong, 57, chemist and logistics professional Foo Ming Jin David, 51, and retired policeman Sukdeu Singh, 64.
The party has confirmed that they will be contesting in the Tanjong Pagar and Jurong group representation constituencies, but have remained mum about the specific wards candidates will be fielded to.
The first five candidates were introduced by party secretary general Tan Jee Say on Friday.
In contrast to Friday’s announcement where most candidates were “young”, Dr Ang said that yesterday’s candidates were “heavier” in terms of experience.
“If elected, we will go all out here to serve with our wealth of experience,” he added.
Dr Ang also highlighted concerns about income disparity in Singapore and said that SingFirst wants to create a broader social safety net for Singaporeans.
The party also champions giving Singaporeans priority in terms of employment and education but Dr Ang emphasized that they are not xenophobic. He said that they are merely calling for “responsible immigration” and stricter control over the number of foreigners coming to Singapore to work and study.
He said: “We welcome foreigners. But everything being equal, the Singaporean must get the job first, the foreigner can wait.”
