Movie Review: In The Room (R21)
In The Room is an omnibus of six short stories, all taking place in the fictional Singapura Hotel's Room 27 from the 1940s to the future.
Each story is filmed in director Eric Khoo's signature artsy style, with a different look and colour palette for every decade.
The common thread is the love, lust and longing its occupants experience.
Some standout segments include Pussy, starring Josie Ho as a mama-san in the 1950s, and Search, a heartrending tale of an affair between a married woman (Show Nishino) and a man (Lawrence Wong).
Unfortunately, the film is hampered by an uneven tone. The comic and tragic elements do not always blend together well.
But the erotic scenes are certainly steamy enough and In The Room is worth a visit for its stellar individual stories.
Verdict: 3/5
