This article is more than 12 months old

Local singer Nathan Hartono has done it again, this time making it to the top six of reality TV singing series Sing! China.

In last Friday's (Sept 16) episode, the 25-year-old rising star easily beat his American-born Chinese opponent Karen Lam with 41 votes from the panel of 51 industry professionals, while Lam garnered only 10 votes.

Shin Min Daily News reported that Hartono is the only member of Mandopop star and Sing! China coach and judge Jay Chou's team and the only Singaporean to make it to the finals.

Hartono will perform at the finals on Oct 7 at the Beijing National Stadium together with Xu Geyang and Jiang Dunhao from Wang Feng's team, Yang Meina from Harlem Yu's team and Wang Chenrui and Jeryl Lee from Na Ying's team.

It was originally a top five, but the rules were reportedly changed at the last minute to open up an additional spot to prevent awkwardness for Yu's team, which initially had no representative for the finals.

He splits from second wife

US TV host and celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain (above), 60, has reportedly split from his wife of nine years, Italian mixed martial arts fighter Ottavia Busia, 38.

The couple married in 2007 and have a nine-year-old daughter. According to Page Six, they have been separated for some time and there is no third party involved.

This was his second marriage. He divorced his first wife Nancy Putkoski in 2005 after 20 years together.

Amal Clooney aware of her job risks

Amal Clooney (above) says her Hollywood actor husband George Clooney understands her sometimes dangerous work as a human rights lawyer.

The 38-year-old Lebanese-British activist is representing Nadia Murad, a 23-year-old Yazidi woman who was sold as a sex slave to an ISIS commander, in an International Criminal Court and is suing the terrorist group.

"You know, this is something I discussed with my husband before I took on something like this," Amal told NBC News. "We did discuss it, and we are aware of some of the risks involved, of course.

"(George) met Nadia too, and I think he was moved for the same reasons. And he understood. I mean, this is my work."

Sued over girlfriend’s death

Canadian-US actor Jim Carrey (above), 54, has been accused of assisting the death of his late girlfriend, make-up artist Cathriona White. Her estranged husband Mark Burton lodged a lawsuit against Carrey.

Irish-born White was found dead in her apartment last year, having overdosed on prescription drugs.

In the wrongful death lawsuit lodged on Monday, Burton claimed the latter had provided those illegally-obtained drugs and was trying to cover up his involvement in the death.

Carrey has released a statement, saying: "I will not tolerate this heartless attempt to exploit me or the woman I loved. Cat's troubles were born long before I met her and sadly her tragic end was beyond anyone's control."

That messes everything up. That takes the fairy tale out of it. Cinderella didn’t get married, she just lived happily ever after.
