Erika snatches title and Vietnam ticket
So it's Vietnam here I come, for Erika Layson.
Keeping her mind firmly focused on the Faldo Series Finals at Laguna Lang Co in Danang, the Nanyang Girls' High School student fulfilled her ambition yesterday.
Coming from behind, the 15-year-old just nicked the Faldo Series Singapore title and, with it, the ticket to the Finals in March.
And the victory did not come easily. For she just edged out Denise Wong on countback (final day's score) after both girls finished the three-day event at Jurong Country Club on an eight-over 234 total.
Going into the final round five shots behind Denise, Erika shot a 78 - buoyed by two birdies - to Denise's 83 to claim the crown.
She said: "I went into the game, just to play my best and be relaxed. But, of course, I had Vietnam on my mind."
She hopes to up her practice regimen, from four times a week to every day, under her dad and coach, Edwin, at the National Service Resort and Country Club.
In the boys' division, Desmond Kim carded an 80 for an eight-over 224 (72, 72, 80) total and a comfortable win in the Series.
Donovan Lee finished five shots behind on a 229 (74, 76, 79) total.
