Movie Review: Money Monster (M18)
Can three Oscar winners turn in a B-movie?
Well, that is the sad reality of Money Monster.
George Clooney and Julia Roberts, together with director Jodie Foster, fail to bring life and understanding to this real-time drama that preaches about the flaws of Wall Street.
Clooney is financial guru Lee Gates, who uses dancing girls to shell out advice on his TV show, Lee Gates Presents Money Monster.
Roberts is Patty Fenn, his long-suffering producer who is constantly trying to rein in her peacock host.
The trouble starts when Money Monster fan Kyle (Jack O'Connell) barges in during a live recording, armed with a gun and an explosives-packed vest, demanding answers on an investment gone bad.
There is initial tension but halfway through, Foster takes a wrong turn, and what ensues is a meandering thriller disguised as social satire.
What a waste of her all-star cast.
