Double delight for United fan Ang
Daniel Ang Ming Yi had double delight last night.
The Manchester United fan was one of the three winners picked among the near-100 crowd for predicting the correct half-time score of the match between Liverpool and Manchester United.
And the project manager saw his favourite club snatch a 1-0 win at Anfield.
The other two winners were technician Eric Ng, 37, and engineer Yong Soong Ooi, 48.
The winners won a football jersey each.
The match was presented by Singtel TV during the EPL Mania event at the TNP Sports Bar located at Shanghai Dolly in Clarke Quay.
While the 32-year-old Ang had predicted 0-0 "because the teams would play conservatively", he had not expected the way the match had gone.
Liverpool created many chances but just could not find the back of the net.
The tension was also high between the players from the two long-standing rivals at the Reds' home ground.
"It was quite exciting, even though it's 0-0," said Ang at half-time.
Lim Ee Ngee who, surprisingly, is a fan of both teams, told The New Paper prior to the match that he was looking forward to a good game.
"Hopefully, it'll be a high-scoring match with both teams trying to attack," he said.
SHOT-SHY
United did not have as many shots as Liverpool.
However, captain Wayne Rooney eventually scored for United in the second half to seal a 1-0 victory.
A United fan, who wanted to be known as EL Lim, was not particularly fond of manager Louis van Gaal's playing style.
"It (the match) is important for van Gaal. He may get sacked if they lose. But some United fans may want him to get sacked," he said.
While he told The New Paper that he still didn't like the way United played, he was still happy for the win.
"I thought Liverpool played better, but the goal by Rooney was good.
"And a win is a win," he said.
