Reds in fine position
Today, Klopp's men start a run of fixtures that could strengthen their position in title chase
SOUTHAMPTON v LIVERPOOL
(Tonight, 10.55pm, Singtel TV Ch 103 & StarHub TV Ch 228 - Eleven Plus HD)
If Liverpool feel like they are floating on air, then they'd better heed the warning that altitude sickness can strike any time in a long football season.
The last time they were top of the Premier League, in 2014, they surrendered their lead in dramatic circumstances to throw their title chances down the drain.
But these days, Liverpool are convinced they are made of sturdier stuff.
Admittedly, they look a different side under Juergen Klopp - an eye-pleasing combination of silk and steel.
The 6-1 thumping of Watford in their last Premiership outing was the first time they had scored six goals in the league at Anfield since 2009 and propelled them to the summit.
The foundations for a genuine title charge have been laid.
OPPORTUNITY
Today, the English Premier League resumes after a break for internationals and the Reds have been presented a golden opportunity to step on the accelerator.
As the cliche goes, there is no easy game at the highest level, but Klopp's side will be targeting nothing less than maximum points over the next four weeks.
A tough run at the start of the season, which saw them take on Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, champions Leicester City and Chelsea in their first five games, has eased up.
They face Southampton at St Mary's Stadium today and are eyeing three points to stay top.
They then host bottom side Sunderland, followed by Bournemouth (away), West Ham (home) and Middlesbrough (away).
Looking at the fixture list, Everton, whom they play on Dec 20, will represent the biggest threat in the upcoming fixtures.
It's a fantastic run of games for any title-chasing manager, as long as it doesn't lull the team into a false sense of security.
Liverpool have often put up a title fight but have always struggled to finish strongly.
It is why they have gone 25 years without a league crown, it is why Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva, who has been at the club since 2007, cautioned against losing focus just as the spotlight is falling on the Reds.
He said: "We are excited because the moment is great, but you have to know the limits of focus and excitement and don't mix them because there could be a problem.
"The results are happening at the moment, but there will be moments when we are not winning like we did against Watford in the last game.
"So we have to know how to cope with that pressure because every team goes through a bad period."
Klopp will be hammering home the point all season long, starting today, when the Reds begin what has all the makings of a winning run that could boost their chances of winning their first title in the EPL era and sap the confidence of their immediate rivals.
