Lee set to leave fas for Warriors
National goalkeeper coach Lee Bee Seng is set to leave the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) after 17 years working with the country's top shot-stoppers.
Sources have told The New Paper that the 63-year-old is set to join Great Eastern-Yeo's S.League club Warriors FC.
Lee (photo) has already attended a Warriors training session - although he did not participate in it - and was also spotted in the stands during the club's 4-0 defeat by Brunei DPMM in their The New Paper League Cup match at Jalan Besar Stadium last night.
Warriors, who are languishing in seventh place in the nine-team S.League, parted ways with former goalkeeper coach Scott Starr when Jorg Steinebrunner left as head coach in May.
Lee, a national goalkeeper in the 1970s, first joined the FAS on a part-time basis in January 1999, helping then-Lions coach Vincent Subramaniam.
He became a full-time staff of FAS a year later.
He first worked with then-No. 1 Rezal Hassan, before helping groom the likes of Shahril Jantan, Lionel Lewis, Hassan Sunny and Izwan Mahbud.
Lee was a part of the coaching staff when the Lions won three AFF Suzuki Cup titles (2004, 2007 and 2012) under Radojko Avramovic and was also part of the team that helped the LionsXII win the Malaysian Super League title in 2013 and the Malaysian FA Cup the following year.
In recent years, the FAS expanded the goalkeeper coach department, hiring John Burridge in 2014.
Just before Burridge's contract ended, the FAS engaged Guy Martens - the man who helped develop current Belgium and Chelsea star Thibaut Courtois at RKC Genk - as a "consulting goalkeeper coach" on a short term basis.
Earlier this year, the association signed Frederic de Boever - Martens' assistant at Genk - as goalkeeper coach.
After V Sundramoorthy was appointed national coach last month, de Boever has been handling the training sessions of the goalkeepers, with Lee understood to have taken on a scouting role.
