WATCH: The New Paper takes on petanque!
Ask the average Singaporean what petanque is and you're more than likely to be faced with a blank stare and a confused "What?".
That was how I felt before the SEA Games. So I got on the Internet to learn a thing or two about the sport.
As it turns out, petanque (pronounced pay-tong) is very much like marbles, with a contestant having to throw hollow metal balls as close to a jack on the floor as possible.
It was rather interesting to play too. I thought it was pretty simple but, when I gave it a go, it was much harder than it looked.
To gauge my chances as a potential Team Singapore petanque player, I went head-to-head against the nation's oldest athlete at this Games - 50-year-old Vicki Heo - over two rounds (left).
