WATCH: The New Paper takes on water polo!
Winning 25 straight gold medals at a major Games is a feat not many teams in the region can boast of.
But the Singapore men's water polo team have done just that, claiming every title at the South-east Asia (SEA) Games since 1965.
This dominance has led to some snarky comments like: "Why don't the organisers just give them the gold medal before the competition?"
That's because most people don't know just how difficult it is to stay afloat, manoeuvre the ball and fend off opponents, all at the same time.
I do, after spending just two minutes with goalkeeper Nigel Tay. That short spell was all it took for me to almost drown, resulting in me returning, prematurely, to the comforts of dry land (left). Talk about being thrown into the deep end.
Now, I have new-found respect for these guys and the hard work that goes into protecting the gold medal that has never left Singapore's grasp.
