Movie Review: Truth (M18)
For a film called Truth, the facts come across somewhat dodgy.
It tells the story of the 2004 scandals that ended US news anchor Dan Rather and award-winning television producer Mary Mapes' careers.
Mapes (Cate Blanchett) gets a tip that President George W. Bush had not painted an accurate picture of his military career.
Mapes and her team jump on the story and after Rather (Robert Redford) presents the report, it is revealed they might not have thoroughly fact-checked.
It is based on Mapes' memoir so you can't blame it for being one-sided.
The real truth doesn't really matter anyway.
What matters is Blanchett's powerful performance as an aggrieved woman, aided by the wonderful Redford.
Their combined brilliance makes this draggy biopic watchable.
