TNP New Face 2016 - Jolene Poon
Jolene Poon, 24
Private tutor and robotics instructor with Zeezag
Jolene's biggest obsession is her 18-month-old daughter Cayleigh. Even though the girl is mischievous at times, she never fails to make Jolene smile every day. She said: "It also gives me huge joy and satisfaction to witness her first moments when she discovers how to do things on her own."
What do you like to do in your free time?
I will be catching up on dramas that I have missed, such as Korean drama Descendants Of The Sun. But recently, I have been spending my free time conducting Lego Robotics classes for kids. What is your worst habit?
I'm indecisive. Every decision will have either a good or bad consequence and I think it is the gripping fear of making a wrong choice that leads me to take a long time to make up my mind.
Where would you go if you could travel anywhere in the world for free and why?
I have never been to countries outside Asia. I would love to get far away from Singapore and visit Finland to experience how that part of the world lives.
I imagine it would be a fun and an eye-opening experience to live in igloos and see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights).
Who do you admire most?
My dad. He had a stroke a few years ago, which paralysed half of his body. But he remained strong-willed and did not give up.
He has been exercising every day in the hope that he can recover. I admire his grit and tenacity in dealing with the hard trials of life.
If there was a fire at home, what is the one item you would save?
My loved ones. They mean the world to me. As long as they are safe, all other material things are replaceable.
