Couple calls TNP about falling risk

They were desperate for a solution to their problem.

For the past three months, Mr Zou Xiang, 41, and his wife, Madam Peng Xin Yi, 38, had been trying to install grilles at their double-storey penthouse at 19 Shelford condominium, off Adam Road.

The couple, parents to a four-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter, were worried about the dangers posed to their children by the horizontal railings at their fourth-storey unit's balcony.

The bars are easy for young children to climb and children could also slip through the gaps between them.

When the condo's management committee rejected their repeated requests to install the grilles to protect their children, they contacted TNP.

Mr Zou said: "I couldn't wait for a reply from the condo management committee anymore. I searched and found related articles and thought that, by writing in, the media would bring awareness to the situation."

The story was published last Friday.

He had heard a loud commotion and police sirens as he was going to bed at around midnight on Wednesday.

A dog, believed to be a labrador cross, had died after apparently falling from height at Block 480, Segar Road, in Bukit Panjang.

Mr Loy, a frequent reader of TNP, said: "I saw the dog lying down and I called in to TNP because I wanted the media to know this."

Another story published last Friday as a result of a reader tip-off was on Kiddy Fun, an indoor playground at The Grandstand in Bukit Timah.

Kiddy Fun had announced its permanent closure last Tuesday after a burst water pipe had destroyed its equipment.

The reader had seen the announcement on Kiddy Fun's Facebook page.

Another reader contacted TNP to share news that Hong Kong's Consumer Council had warned of a possible cancer-causing chemical in 11 soya sauce brands in the territory.

At least two of them are available here.

The AVA said all soya sauce brands available here meet its food safety standards.

Mr Muhamad Halim, a security officer in his late 30s, also called TNP about a body that had been found at Jurong Lake Park.

Mr Halim was on his way home when he saw police cars, an ambulance, and a crowd near the lake.
