Massive blaze at Toa Payoh factories
A massive blaze ripped through two factories early Friday (Jan 29) morning at a Toa Payoh industrial area.
The fire started at about 2.25am at 11 Toa Payoh Industrial Park and involved a paper product factory, which contained cardboard boxes, and a laundry factory.
Two fire engines, three Red Rhinos, one ambulance and eight supporting vehicles were sent to the scene.
Firefighters arrived to find the blaze raging and used five water jets to prevent the fire from spreading.
Sixty firefighters were involved in the operation and at the height of the firefighting, seven water jets were used, encircling the blaze.
Unmanned firefighting machines were also used.
The blaze was put under control within 90 minutes.
As of 6am, firefighters were still putting out pockets of fire to completely extinguish the blaze.
No one was injured in the incident and investigations are underway.
Other companies on the block include another printing company and the Toyogo warehouse.
Residents from a block of flats overlooking the factory said they heard two explosions at about 2.45am.
Many rushed out to the common corridor where they saw flames leaping out from the factory roof.
