Ex-Girls’ Generation star Jessica Jung happy to “make decisions herself”
Ex-Girls' Generation member Jessica Jung in town to launch her fashion line
When popular idol Jessica Jung was kicked out of top K-pop group Girls' Generation last September for launching her fashion business, she was just as shocked as fans and the entertainment industry alike.
Then, the 26-year-old said on her personal Weibo account: "I cannot hide my shocked and upset heart about this... I have always put Girls' Generation's activities before my business or personal life as a member. However, despite my efforts for the team, I have been asked to leave the team by the agency (S.M. Entertainment)."
But, it seems like the pretty Korean star is now enjoying her newfound freedom since Jung finally cancelled her contract and parted ways with S.M. Entertainment earlier this month. She is now focusing her attention on her fashion line BLANC & ECLARE.
Jung was in town yesterday to launch her line at multi-label boutique Salon by Surrender at the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
At a brief 10-minute press conference, she said in fluent English: "The pros of being independent and coming out on my own is that I get to make decisions myself.
"I work well with my team. It's easier to communicate and work things out. As for the cons, I haven't been seeing any lately."
This is her first working trip to Singapore since leaving Girls' Generation. She was last here with her former members in 2013 for a concert.
Dressed in a simple white top and jeans from BLANC & ECLARE, she appeared coy from all the media attention but was calm and composed when fielding questions from the floor.
More than 100 fans waited outside the store, trying to catch a glimpse of their idol.
'LIKE A GODDESS'
Temasek Polytechnic student Rachel Ho, 17, told The New Paper: "Jessica is really very pretty, she is like a goddess. I have liked her since she was in Girls' Generation.
"She can sing very well and she has a nice personality. I can tell that she is very shy. I still support her even though she is flying solo."
Republic Polytechnic student Lim Peiyi, 17, added: "Jessica is very talented, and she is so famous. She can design very well, and doing well on her own despite leaving Girls' Generation. I am glad I got to see her today."
Speaking of her designs, Jung said that she goes for understated and classic looks.
She recommended her high-waisted skinny jeans range, saying they have the "perfect Asian fit" and the silhouette makes the legs look longer.
The items in her fashion line range from $150 for a simple tee to $430 for a pair of sunglasses.
Jung talked about the inspiration behind her accessories, saying: "My sunglasses are inspired by the cities I love and have been to.
"For example, my Paris-inspired sunglasses are cat-eyed and more elegant, while my Shanghai-inspired shades have round frames."
She added with a smile: "I don't have any Singapore-inspired sunglasses yet, but I can assure you that it's coming soon. I am working on the new designs."
I work well with my team. It's easier to communicate and work things out. As for the cons, I haven't been seeing any lately.
