Fantastical creations at Cosmoprof make-up competition
Oldest contestant in make-up competition makes a statement with her flora fairy creation
She may have been the oldest contestant at Cosmoprof’s Makeup Artist Award competition held at PoMo mall yesterday, but age certainly did not hold her back.
Madam Annie Wong, 60, dived into creating her team's entry with gusto - a fairy called Nettle Silverwand (below) who, like its name suggests, had plenty of purples and greens of berries and leaves.
The administrative officer applied the techniques that she had learnt during her six months at Cosmoprof Academy - one of Singapore's most established make-up schools.
She is a firm believer that age should not "stop anyone from doing what they love".
She says: "People tell me that I shouldn't learn make-up because I am already 60, but I don't get affected by their comments because I love learning new things."
She participated in Cosmoprof's 10th competition yesterday with two teammates, Ms Edith Lalnunpuii, 24, and Ms Aizza Alonzo, 31.
The competition's 50 participants chose among three categories: Bridal make-up, fashion make-up, or be in a team to create body art which incorporates fantasy, special effects, stage and drama make-up.
SKILLS
The principal of Cosmoprof Academy, Ms Angie Soon, says she wanted this competition to be a platform for her students to showcase their skills.
While most participants are professional make-up artists, Madam Wong said she wanted to challenge herself.
Her team's entry's headpiece was twice as large as the model's head and had purple, white and pink flowers that were painstakingly pieced together.
Contestant Goh Jia Ling, 27, a real estate research manager, created a character named the Eve of the Orient with her teammates, Ms Debra Andrew, 27, and Ms Uma Aruchunan, 21.
Her character had netting, butterflies and vibrant colours on her eyes.
Despite the hours and hard work put into the competition, she attributed her pursuit of make-up excellence to passion.
Miss Goh added that after this competition, she will start organising make-up classes for her colleagues.
