TNP Big Walk returns to the Sports Hub
Look forward to carnival and surprises on Nov 18
The New Paper Big Walk returns to Kallang this year. It will be held at the Singapore Sports Hub on Nov 18.
The first Big Walk was held there in 1991 and the venue served as the event's home each year till 2006.
In 2016, participants were treated to the sights and sounds of the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari, enjoying attractions such as the elephant enclosure.
This year can the 5km walk will flag off at 7.30am on Nov 18.
Early-bird sign-ups enjoy a ticket price of $12, valid till Oct 21. Normal rates will be $20 a ticket. Sign up now at www.tnpbigwalk.com
This is the cheapest Big Walk tickets have been in recent years. Last year's tickets were priced at $25.
Participants will receive a limited-edition Big Walk 2018 tote bag, a Compressport Big Walk T-shirt worth $49, and many goodies from sponsors.
A surprise awaits everyone at the carnival after the walk.
TNP readers will be delighted to know we are celebrating our 30th anniversary at the walk, with special treats in store.
This year's Big Walk also partners two first-time sponsors, Workforce Singapore (WSG) and the Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (Tafep).
WSG, the presenting sponsor for the walk, helps Singaporeans find jobs through its Adapt and Grow initiative.
Main sponsor Tafep promotes the adoption of fair, responsible and progressive employment practices and helps companies build progressive workplaces.
The Adapt and Grow initiative was launched in 2016 for Singaporeans to tap on specific programmes to obtain the necessary knowledge and skills for new jobs.
It offers programmes for individuals looking to enter or reenter the workforce, or for those looking for a career switch.
TNP editor Eugene Wee said: "It is a privilege for us to partner WSG and Tafep in this year's Big Walk to raise awareness about what Singapore can do to become an agile workforce and implement fair workplace practices.
"It is also a great opportunity for employers, employees and their families to come together and enjoy a scenic stroll along closed roads and enjoy the carnival."
Mr Tan Choon Shian, chief executive of WSG, said: "WSG is happy to work with The New Paper on their 30th anniversary to encourage an agile mind and body for all Singaporeans through the Big Walk.
"It is important for our workforce to be agile to succeed in adapting to changing job demands and career opportunities in today’s environment. And we hope our Adapt and Grow programmes and services can help more Singaporeans realise fulfilling careers.”
Mrs Roslyn Ten, general manager of Tafep, said Tafep will involve employers and employees it has worked with to show commitment towards building fair and inclusive workplaces.
She added: "Having a fair and inclusive workplace is important as it helps employees feel valued and respected and empowered to achieve their fullest potential. In turn, employers will achieve organisational success."
