Quek in the driver's seat
Quincy Quek, who plays most of his golf on China Tour, is set for a year-end victory.
The much-heralded Singapore pro takes a three-shot lead into today's final round of the three-day SPGA Golf series, presented by AIM Ventures and FEC Golf Classic.
A one-under 71 at Batam's Tering Bay course yesterday saw Quek take over the lead from senior Poh Eng Wah (70 on Monday) and hold a good advantage over second-placed Mitchell Slorach (74) on a one-under 143 total.
Poh dropped to joint-third with Reagan Png (75) and Dino Kwek (75) after a disastrous 77 with no birdies.
Quek played four birdies and three bogeys in his round at the $25,000 tournament, the seventh and final leg of the SPGA Series.
The best round of the day came from rookie pro Johnson Poh, who shot a 70 with two birdies and the rest of the holes in regulation.
Meanwhile, Adi (75) has a massive eight-shot lead in the amateur division, over Alex Tarigan (77) and Rodeo (79).
Also in line for a triumphant finish today is senior division leader Freddy Leow (157), who has a nine-shot lead over Ahmad Sani.
The event was made possible by Tering Bay boss Morgan Tan, who provided discounted fees and accommodation.
The top-five finishers of the 2015 SPGA Order of Merit will gain exemption from the first round of the Asian Tour's Qualifying School next month.
