Dollah Kassim award nominee Glenn prefers to let feet do the talking
Reserved nature of Victoria School's Glenn belies his talent on the field
His coach says he is a very quiet boy off the field, someone who prefers to let his feet do the talking.
And National Football Academy (NFA) Under-15 coach, V Selvaraj, also rates Glenn Kweh highly.
Selvaraj told The New Paper: "He has very good technical skills, he fights for his place and he fights for his goals.
"He is very intelligent and composed in front of goal and that's an attribute any striker must have."
Those attributes have helped the 15-year-old be selected as a nominee for The New Paper Dollah Kassim Award 2015.
Glenn, who started playing football at five, has never given up any opportunity that would help bring his game to the next level.
In Primary 1, he took up football as a Co-Curricular Activity (CCA).
After PSLE, he went for selection trials for Home United's Under-14 team and got the nod, eventually becoming their captain.
The striker reached another milestone when he made it to the NFA this year.
"I was happy to have this chance," he said. "Since young, my goal was to play for the national team."
Although he has to juggle his NFA training sessions, school work and his CCA, the Victoria School student is not bothered by the hectic schedule.
"Football is my passion, so I will never regret it," he said.
"My mum always emphasises studies.
"She'd say if I don't do well in my studies, she won't let me play football.
"That made me study very hard, so I could play football."
He is in the running for an award named after local football legend Dollah Kassim, who died in 2010.
A month after his death, The New Paper came together with Singapore Pools and the Football Association of Singapore to recognise both footballing excellence and character.
METTLE
Glenn impressed Selvaraj when he proved his mettle after he was moved from Home United's Under-14 team last year, to compete with boys aged 17 and 18 in the FAS' Centre of Excellence Under-18 league this year.
He also found the net at the 2015 Asean Football Federation (AFF) Under-16 Youth Championship and the qualifiers for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under-16 Championship, which will be held next year.
As for his quiet nature, Glenn says he has always been a conservative person, although that does not affect his game.
"No matter how tough the opponent is, I will never give up and do my best to win the match," he said.
