Free dialect workshops at some community clubs
Is your New Year's resolution to learn a new language? Why not pick up a Chinese dialect instead.
Starting next month, social enterprise My Father Tongue will be offering free Hokkien, Teochew and Cantonese workshops at various community clubs around Singapore.
Though these dialects sound very different when spoken, they all share the same written form: Chinese.
To start you off, here are five simple phrases and a guide on how to pronounce them.
The classes, which will run from mid February to late March, are fully funded by the National Heritage Board and the National Youth Council.
Interested members of the public need to register on My Father Tongue's website later this month to join the classes, which are targeted at those aged between 18 and 35.
