Coffeeshop patrons scramble out of the way as another car crashes into Geylang shop
She was standing behind the drinks stall counter when the car crashed into the coffee shop.
It hit at least 10 tables and chairs and went straight towards the boss of the coffee shop.
Three customers who were eating at one of the tables scrambled to safety at the last minute.
Fortunately, the black Honda came to stop, a metre from where Madam Cai Yun Yu was standing.
"I was so scared. Thank goodness that it was past the dinner rush hour, so there were only three or four customers in the shop," the 60-year-old told The New Paper.
"Everyone managed to avoid getting hit by the car."
The incident happened at the Rong Cheng coffee shop at Geylang Lorong 19 on Wednesday at 9pm.
This is the fourth time in three months that a car has crashed into a coffee shop in Geylang.
Speaking at her coffee shop last night, Madam Cai told TNP that three customers had been sitting at a table right in front of the drinks stall counter.
She said in Mandarin: "The car crashed into the tables right in front of the counter and three customers happened to be sitting there just before it happened."
She added that while the customers managed to get away in time, one of them was scalded on the arm with hot soup.
Mr Ye said that after crashing into the coffee shop, the driver sat in his car for a while before getting out of his vehicle to sit on a chair until the police arrived.
Mr Ye Neng Min, 37, a helper at the coffee shop, said it was the first time an accident had taken place there.
"This place is very safe, our tables are not even on the road. I don't understand how the car could have crashed into the coffee shop without any warning," he said.
Shin Min Daily News reported that the driver had lost control of the car when turning into Geylang Lorong 19 from Sims Avenue.
According to Lianhe Wanbao, the driver's left arm was in a cast when he was driving the car.
The driver told the evening daily that he had broken his arm in an accident while riding a motorcycle in Jurong four months ago.
The car was towed away at around 1am.
Mr Ye said: "After the car was towed away, we started cleaning up. We usually close at midnight, but this time, we closed at 2am.".
A police spokesman said they received a call at 9.01 pm informing them of an accident on Geylang Lorong 19. No injuries were reported.
