Unexpected $3,000 windfall
Retiree plans to buy insurance plan for granddaughter
He did not expect to win anything when he bought The New Paper on Monday and collected a Bonus Challenge card that came with it.
But yesterday, Mr Lee Choon Heng, 72, was pleasantly surprised when he found out he was the winner of the first Jackpot cash prize, which had snowballed to $3,000.
"It was totally unexpected," the retiree said.
Mr Lee took an hour-long bus ride from his home in Bedok to claim his prize at the Singapore Press Holdings News Centre building at Toa Payoh North last night.
When asked what he would do with the money, he said: "I have five grandchildren and I intend to give it to my youngest granddaughter, who is three years old now. I plan to buy a study insurance (plan) for her.
"At present, I don't need any extra cash because I'm a pensioner."
HOW TO PLAY
Look out for the Candy Crush icons in each issue of TNP from Tuesday to Sunday.
If the icons match the ones on your Bonus Challenge card, which is distributed with TNP on Mondays, cut and keep it.
Note that icons collected are only valid for the Bonus Challenge card issued on the same week.
If you collect four icons to match a vertical column (from top to bottom) on your card, go to the lobby of the Singapore Press Holdings News Centre at Toa Payoh North to claim your prize by answering a simple question on the same day of the completion of the vertical row.
Prizes must be collected on the same day between 8pm and 9pm.
The jackpot cash prize is now at $1,000.
It will snowball the next day if it remains unclaimed by 9pm.
Other prizes up for grabs include Apple Watches worth $600 each and Nespresso coffee machines worth $240.
I intend to give it to my youngest grand- daughter, who is three years old now. I plan to buy a study insurance (plan) for her.
