Another four-gold outing for Diane

She so nearly lost the gold in the 200m on Monday, but held on till she crossed the line before falling to clinch victory in a dramatic finish.

There was no such drama yesterday for Diane Hilary Pragasam, who ended her assault at the National Schools' Track and Field Championships with two gold medals as part of the Singapore Sports School's 4x100m and 4x400m B Division Girls' team.

That meant she equalled her haul of four golds in 2015, after she also won the 400m event earlier in this year's championships.

Diane, 15, The New Paper School Sports Star recipient last year after her four golds in the C Division, said: "This year, it feels tougher as I'm competing in an older age category.

"I feel as though I have passed a bigger milestone as compared to winning four golds last year."

She was the second runner in the quartet from the Sports School that clocked 49.65sec in the 4x100m to win gold, ahead of Cedar Girls (50.16) and third-placed Nanyang Girls' High School (52.07).

Diane anchored the 4x400m quartet that clocked 4min 16.74sec, finishing well ahead of the Cedar Girls' team (4:19.78) and bronze-medallists Nanyang Girls' High School (4:20.14).

Diane paid tribute to her teammates, saying: "I believed in my team from the beginning and I knew we could do a good job to win.

"We are pretty confident together as a team and we were all just focused on one goal, which was to do our best."

Diane's four-gold haul matched the feat of her younger schoolmate, Reuben Lee, who also won four events in the Boys' C Division.

Reuben, 14, claimed gold in the 100m and 200m as well as the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.

Looking forward, Diane simply wants to guard against overconfidence, as she looks for more success in track and field.

"My heart will be towards winning the 200m, 100m and the relays just as I did this year, but I know that its attainable only with hard work," said Diane.

"I hope to improve and beat my personal best next time."
